A roadmap for DAB+ in Luxembourg

Government.lu

The Media, Connectivity and Digital Policy Department today published a roadmap to accompany the launch and deployment of the DAB+ digital broadcasting standard in Luxembourg.

DAB+ is the latest evolution of the digital broadcasting standard "Digital Audio Broadcasting". It refers to digital broadcasting through the composition and transmission of a multiplex of multiple radio programs and has many advantages over analog broadcasting.

In collaboration with the stakeholders, the Service des médias, de la connectivité et de la politique numérique regularly analyses the opportunity of a national roll-out and considers that the time for the introduction of DAB+ in Luxembourg is now.

The objectives are ambitious:

  • Enrich the audio media offer in Luxembourg;
  • Provide near-national coverage for mobile reception (highway and tunnel networks);
  • Support access to digital radio broadcasting for local radio stations.

It is in this context that the roadmap presents the strategic vision, the legal aspects, the practical modalities and the provisional timetable for the launch of DAB+.
