DAB+ launched in Spain

DAB+ will be launched in Spain in 2024.
The conference entitled "The audiovisual sector. Present and future of DTT", organized on November 29 and 30 by FENITEL(National Federation of Telecommunications Installers and Integrators) in Madrid, was the setting chosen by the Director of Audiovisual Policies, Public Service and International of the Spanish Radio and Television Company (CRTVE), Ángel García Castillejo, to announce, definitively, that Spain will cease to be part of the so-called "Iberian Exception", in reference to the fact that Spain and Portugal have always remained silent on the development of digital terrestrial radio, while it is developing in the rest of Europe.

Today, we're faced with a new reality. Since the end of 2020, with the entry into force of the European Electronic Communications Code, all vehicles marketed in the European Union must be equipped with a factory-installed DAB+ receiver.

García Castillejo

This Code, which stems from a European directive, changes the rules of the game throughout the European Union.

García Castillejo announced in the FENITEL forum that it is already working with the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, so that broadcasts can begin on a regular basis with maximum coverage. García Castillejo also stated that it will be announced when and with what coverage the DAB+ broadcast offer will begin.
